How Can a Dental Crown
Restore Your Smile? How Can a Dental Crown
Following treatment for physical trauma or decay, a dental crown is placed over the tooth for added protection and support. Prompt treatment with a dental crown can help you keep your smile whole and avoid the need for extraction. If a tooth does require extraction, our dentists can fill the gap in your smile with a crown supported by dental implants.
Provide Long-Term Durability
At Foothill Dental, our dentists offer three material options for dental crowns to meet the needs of patients of all ages. Whether a patient receives a porcelain same-day crown, IPS e.max ceramic crown, or all-metal crown, the materials we use are designed to withstand normal biting forces and can last a decade or longer with proper care and regular checkups.

"They are the most friendly, caring, and fun office."Do You Offer Same-Day Crowns?
Yes! We can craft a crown while you wait. While a same-day crown can be completed in a single visit, the length of your appointment will depend on the level of treatment required to prepare your tooth. You can generally expect these steps:
A tooth that is weakened due to physical trauma may not take as long as a tooth affected by extensive decay. If decay has reached the inner portion of your tooth, you may require a root canal. Our dentists can perform a virtually pain-free root canal to save your tooth, but it will add some time to your office stay.
Once your tooth has been treated and prepared, your dentist will use an intraoral camera to take detailed 3D images of your teeth. This data is then transferred to the CEREC software, where a crown will be designed to perfectly fit in your smile. The digital template is then sent to our in-office milling machine which will fabricate your new crown out of a porcelain block that has been matched to your natural enamel. Depending on the type of tooth being replaced, fabrication takes four to twenty minutes.
When the crown is completed, your dentist will test its fit and make any final adjustments to ensure it fits comfortably and blends in with your adjacent teeth.
Once both you and your dentist are happy with the fit and appearance of your new crown, it will be permanently bonded in place with dental cement. You will walk out of our office with a fully restored smile, ready to get on with your busy schedule.
Traditional Dental Crown Timeline
1
Treatment
Similar to a same-day crown, your dentist will first remove the damaged or decayed tissue. If the inner portion of your tooth is infected, we can perform a root canal to elevate any painful symptoms.
3
Digital Impressions
We use digital impressions which provide an incredibly detailed 3D image for our dental lab to use as a template for your new crown. It also allows you to skip the mess of traditional impression material. Once completed, our dentist will place a temporary crown.
