Dental Sealants
Dental Sealants in Salt Lake City by Foothill Dental Dentists
Dental Sealants are thin layers of resin that are placed on the pits, fissures, and grooves of your teeth. Typically the dental sealants are applied on the surfaces of your teeth in the back of your mouth, the premolars and molars.
Maintaining a healthy oral hygiene through proper brushing and flossing daily to remove any food particles and plaque. However, there are some areas that can be difficult to thoroughly remove. The majority of decay on back teeth starts in the grooves and pits of chewing surfaces where it is hard to reach and clean. Especially during the first few years after a molar’s eruption is when the tooth can be affected. Sealing these surfaces with composite resins prevents this kind of decay.
Dental Sealants are one of the most effective methods of preventing decay on the surfaces where they are placed. Although it is still a possibility that decay may develop on surfaces in between teeth, Dental Sealants significantly reduce the overall chance of having cavities.
