What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten the teeth over a period of 12 to 18 months. These aligners are custom-molded to the patient using 3-D computer imaging and are worn for 20 to 22 hours a day.

Every two weeks, patients replace their current Invisalign aligner with the next one in the treatment sequence. With Invisalign, patients can get a straight, healthy smile without the hassles of braces.

People all over the globe are undergoing Invisalign treatment...

DID YOU KNOW...
/
The clear aligner systems of today have a decades-long history. The idea of orthodontic aligner trays can be traced all the way back to 1945. Dr. H.D. Kesling envisioned an orthodontic treatment that used of a series of tooth "Positioners" to straighten teeth rather than traditional braces.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Practically Unnoticeable

The clear aligners are hard to notice, even when people are interacting with you up close.

Treatment Is Easy

Patients remove aligners when eating, drinking beverages other than water, and cleaning their teeth.

Easy Oral Hygiene

Without brackets or wires, patients can brush and floss as usual. No special tools required.

Eat Your Favorite Foods

Unlike traditional braces, you don't have to avoid your favorite snacks or meals with Invisalign.

Remove When Needed

You can take out your aligners when needed, whether it's for social situations or sports.

Greater Comfort

Invisalign patients don't complain about irritation caused by the brackets or wires of braces.

IS INVISALIGN FDA-APPROVED?

/
Yes. Invisalign has received FDA approval. Our dentists would also like to point out that the clear plastic Invisalign aligners do not contain BPA (bisphenol A), BPS (bisphenol S), latex, or gluten.

What to Expect During the Procedure

1

Assessing Your Condition

If you notice the symptoms of a root canal, we’ll schedule an appointment as soon as possible so we can examine the affected area and determine the source of your concerns. Something as common as a cavity can lead to infection inside a tooth.

2

Ensuring Your Comfort

We will give you a numbing local anesthetic before treatment begins, so your care will be virtually pain-free.

3

Accessing The Tooth

Once the area is numb, we'll begin your treatment. To ensure your tooth stays sterile, our specialists will use a protective dam or tooth shield before creating an opening in the tooth to reach the infected pulp inside.

4

Removing The Infection

To remove the infection and prevent it from spreading, our specialists will take out the pulp and disinfect the interior of the tooth. The pulp is soft tissue on the inside of the tooth that includes nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.

5

Filling The Tooth

If needed, posts will be inserted into the canals to strengthen them. The next step is to fill the interior with a rubber-like substance.

6

Restoring The Tooth

To strengthen and protect the tooth, we typically recommend a dental crown. In many cases, our dentists can fit you with a CEREC same-day crown so that you can complete your treatment in one appointment.

1

Initial Consultation

During your consultation at our Salt Lake City office, our dentists will examine your teeth and review your dental health goals. We'll determine if you're a good candidate for Invisalign or if a different dentistry procedure is more ideal for your situation.

3

Wearing Your Aligners

Patients will wear their clear aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. The aligners are removed when eating, drinking beverages other than cold water, and while brushing and flossing. After two weeks, patients discard their current aligner and move on to the next one in sequence.

5

The Final Results

Invisalign treatment can take several months to more than a year. For minor misalignments, Invisalign Express may be used, with final results achieved in six months or less.

Invisalign can straighten smiles without metal brackets, wires, or bands.

2

Planning Your Treatment

Using computer models and the latest dental technology, we'll design every set of Invisalign aligners you'll need from beginning to end.

4

Periodic Checkups

Throughout the process, patients will check in with our dentists every few weeks. This allows us to monitor the progress of Invisalign treatment and discuss any concerns. Patients can reach out to us between these checkups if they have any questions.
